I was honoured to be re-elected in 2014 to represent the South West of England & Gibraltar in the European Parliament. The purpose of this website is to keep you up to date with my work in the region and the Parliament where it is my job to champion your interests and concerns within the EU.
I am pleased that the Conservative Party delivered on its 2015 election manifesto promise and held a referendum on Britain's membership of the EU. Although I voted remain, I accept the result without complaint. Britain has spoken and the voters have chosen a future path outside of the EU. I respect the will of the people and do not want a second referendum. I will focus my energies on getting the very best possible deal from the EU in a post-Brexit world.
Whichever side of the debate we were on, we must now reunite and put all our efforts into helping negotiate a smooth departure from the EU that safeguards Britain’s interests and recognises that we remain friends, allies and trading partners with our European neighbours. The European Parliament will vote on whether to approve the agreement reached between the UK and the EU27. British MEPs, therefore, have a role in building a consensus within the European Parliament so that any negotiated outcome passes easily.
